Meet our Dentists
Dr Kym Hiern
Kym has a real passion for dentistry and a wealth of experience. She was born near Adelaide, and went to school in Hong Kong, London and a variety of places in Australia. Kym graduated from the University of Sydney in 1983.
Kym has lived in Sydney for more than 30 years with her husband, Chris, and has survived raising three sons, who now live independently in Sydney and Melbourne. Prior to setting up the Duneba Dental practice with Dr Jayne Jones in 2001, Kym spent seven years at the RAAF base in Richmond, a year as a clinical tutor in the prosthodontics department at the University of Sydney, and worked in several different surgeries.
She thoroughly enjoys looking after the community and families of Duneba Dental, and has been the face of the practice for the past two decades.
The other loves of Kym’s life are family, food and reading.
Dr Melanie Patney
B.D.S. (Adel). FPFA
Melanie loves looking after her patient’s dental health. She grew up in Sydney and attended James Ruse Agricultural High School, where she excelled as an all-rounder. Passionate about dentistry from a young age, Melanie studied in Adelaide before practicing on the Central Coast for seven years. She has since returned to her Sydney roots, where she was thrilled to join the wonderful team at Duneba Dental.
Melanie is passionate about preventive dentistry and patient education. She has an interest in all aspects of general dentistry and is particularly skilled in working with children and anxious patients. Melanie’s understanding of the gentle and sensitive approach required allows her to deliver outcomes in her patients’ best interests, and to the highest standard of care.
A Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Melanie is also an active member of the Australian Dental Association, having received an honorary service award for her work in developing a dental mentoring program. Melanie is committed to continuing her education, and continually finds new ways to implement modern dental philosophies and techniques.
When not treating patients, you can find Melanie spending time with her two-year-old son, her family and friends. She also enjoys cooking, reading and keeping fit.
Dr Rohan Krishnan
B.Med Sci. B.Dent(Hons) (Syd) FPFA
Honorary Clinical Associate Lecturer (University of Sydney)
Rohan is a caring dentist who enjoys all aspects of dentistry. Born and raised in the north shore, Rohan prides himself on the relationships he builds with our patients and their families. Rohan was very humbled when Dr Jayne Jones asked him to look after her patients and their dental care into the future.
He is currently an Honorary Clinical Associate Lecturer at The University of Sydney and is a board director and councillor of the Australian Dental Association NSW and board director of Filling the Gap (Dental Charity). He also regular writes articles for the North Shore Times, Mosman Daily and NSW Dentist.
Rohan graduated from the University of Sydney with honours and has built a strong reputation over the years and he takes pride in delivering evidence-based dentistry. He takes time to get to know his patients, and makes sure they are well informed and in control of their oral health. Rohan's clinical interests include preventative and restorative dentistry, endodontics and oral surgery.
Outside of work, Rohan has been active in furthering the dental profession. He is passionate about education and to that end has gone back to teach HSC school students at Sydney Grammar School (where he was a student). Rohan also enjoys giving back to the University of Sydney, where he has mentored and tutored first year dental students. He also actively participates in continuing professional development.
It is hard to believe Rohan has any time left, but he also enjoys sport, travelling, music and — of course — spending time with his two young kids!
